Read Manga or Comics on iTouch/iPhone

iComic (v3.2) running on my iTouch

To be able to read manga or comic on your iTouch/iPhone, you need to install a program called iComic on your iPhone. You can get the program at iTunes App Store or if you have a jailbroken iTouch/iPhone you can get the installer here (v3.2.1).

After you have purchased or downloaded the iComic, install it on your iTouch/iPhone from iTunes.

Now to a read manga on your iTouch, there are two way to do it.. Either you download the manga directly to your iTouch or you can use FTP to transfer manga from your Computer to your iPhone...

I. Downloading Manga Directly to your iTouch

To download manga directly to your iTouch/iPhone, you need to have an internet connection...

Open up the iComic, on the Home screen, click the 'Add/Delete file', and then click 'Download Here'. On the URL box, type in the manga DIRECT DOWNLOAD LINK...

ex. I'll download Naruto manga from Mangastream: http://static3.mangastream.com/download/Naruto_497.zip

Hit the 'Go' button, and wait 'till it finish downloading....

II. Using FTP to transfer manga files from Computer

For this method to work, you need to have an FTP client installed on your Computer, in this tutorial, I'll be using Filezilla. (any FTP client will work just fine but I prefer Filezilla)

First, make sure that your Computer and your iTouch/iPhone are on the same network (WiFi). Then you'll need to launch the FTP server on your iTouch/iPhone via iComic.

Open up the iComic, and on the home screen select the 'Launch FTP server'. You'll see something like this:

Take note on the 'IP address' and the 'Port' here. Open up the FTP Client on your computer, and type in your iTouch/iPhone IP address on the 'host' box and '20000' for the port... Leave the username and password empty... And hit the 'quick connect' button. If you do it correctly, you should see 'Directory listing successful' on the message log. Something like this:

Now, as you can see there are two file browser, the one on the left (local site) is your computer while the one on the right (remote site) is your iTouch/iPhone. Now to transfer manga in your Computer to your iTouch/iPhone, you'll need to locate the manga on your Computer using the filebrowser on the left side, then upload the files..

ex. I'm going to upload all the naruto manga on my computer to my iTouch.

Just wait 'till the transfer process complete.... and Stop the FTP server on your iTouch/iPhone when you're done..

Note: as far as I know, iComic can only read .zip files. Other archive files such as .rar can't be read by iComic.. maybe you can open other archive files in iComic but I never try...
